It was a joyous day for Baptist Medical Center East in Montgomery Alabama as they held a ribbon cutting to celebrate a major expansion of their NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)!
The new 16,000 sq ft unit will add 30 new NICU beds, including 3 pods as well as 18 individual private rooms, 6 of which are equipped for rooming in, allowing parents to stay overnight with their newborn in a comfortable environment. The rooms are large with many amenities allowing parents to be supported while they engage in family centered care. It’s the largest NICU between Birmingham and Mobile.
Many special details went into the planning of this project, including early room mock ups, themed pods with local flowers, corridor photography of Baptist East NICU newborns and a “Little Library” of books for parents to read to their newborns.
Baptist believes it is “the birthplace of higher expectations” and this new unit embodies that belief and provides an exceptional care environment for the community. We are proud to partner with Baptist Health, GMC and Batson Cook to deliver this amazing project!
