Brookwood Baptist Medical Center: Chapel Dedication

Design Innovations is honored to have been part of the new chapel for Brookwood Baptist Medical Center. Brookwood’s former chapel was a small room around a side corridor. When leadership approached Design Innovations about converting existing office space into a prominent sanctuary, we were excited about the possibilities.

The new place of worship invites patients and staff into a calming and peaceful atmosphere for reflection and prayer.

“This beautiful new space, our chapel, is going to be such a great addition to our organization. We know that it will be such a benefit and blessing to our patients, our employees, our medical staff, and our community who come to us in need of healing.” – Jeremy Clark, CEO, Brookwood Baptist Health

Augusta University Health Information Technology Department Relocation

When AUH decided to relocate their IT department they chose a downtown office building and tapped DI to create “an innovative, fresh, relaxed, creative and techie” work space. They wanted an area where people would want to come to work and be inspired by their surroundings. They believe that people bring their best when they are comfortable and relaxed in their work space. Our goal was to design an inclusive space that would help them recruit and retain great talent! We included multiple collaboration spaces, private break out spaces, conference rooms, testing classrooms, remote working spots, and even a private mother’s room for new moms transitioning back into the office. The finish palette plays on energizing colors with a creative mix of materials.

Baptist Medical Center East: Third Level Vertical Expansion for Women’s Services

Construction is complete on a new Women’s Services bed wing adding 26 patient rooms for Baptist Medical Center East in Montgomery. This new 3rd Floor bed wing ties into their existing hospital and adds growing room for their Women’s Services line. With a soothing finish palette of neutrals and earth tones the entire space radiates a feeling of comfort and compassion. LVT flooring is used throughout the bedwing in corridors and patient rooms for maintenance efficiency, quieter corridors, and modern aesthetic. Biophilic artwork evokes a sense of calm and serenity for the staff and patients alike. Attention to detail was given to each space, from the custom sleeper sofas in the patient rooms to the fold down wall seats for charting in the corridor. Planned, designed, and constructed during Covid with supply chain shortages-we had our challenges but worked as a team to deliver an exceptional project for our client. We are proud to be a part of this project and thankful for our partnership with Baptist Health!

Prattville Baptist Hospital Adds Geriatric Behavioral Health Wing

A floor to ceiling mural of the Alabama River greets patients in the large activity room of the brand new Geriatric Behavioral Health wing of Prattville Baptist Hospital. Design Innovations collaborated with hospital leadership to create a safe and healing environment for the project. Nature and local landmark photography in every patient room and therapy area integrates biophilic design and offers familiarity to the patients. The neutral finish palette with seamless wood flooring and durable finish materials creates a calm atmosphere that will also withstand harsh healthcare cleaning procedures. Special consideration was given to all fixtures and furniture selections to make sure they met behavioral health recommendations.

Enoch Callaway Cancer Center Completed

Construction completion of the Enoch Callaway Cancer Center marks a major milestone for a decade-long dream at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. This 1970’s oncology treatment facility had become too small and outdated for the superior cancer care it provided. Through a financial market dip, hospital ownership change, and a global pandemic the design and construction of this facility persisted and stands at the close of 2020 as a testament to the commitment of this community and design team!

This two-story facility, situated on a naturally sloping site, now allows for all the hospital’s cancer services to be under one roof. The upper level supports clinical exam spaces, an expansive 19-bay infusion center, a pharmacy, and administrative space.

Enoch Calloway Cancer Center at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center

The ground floor remained operational through construction and now houses an additional linear accelerator and provides support spaces that interface with the West Georgia and East Alabama community. A resource cancer learning center, chapel, public meeting auditorium, and wigs boutique for cancer patients allow this facility to support community needs.

Hospital leadership tasked its design team to create an environment for healing that connects with the local community and nature. Biophilic design was an integral part of the design concept. Expansive views to tree lines, natural light, and a memorial garden were purposefully designed. Elements of nature were brought inside through artwork selections and material choices. The finish palette is calming, crisp, clean, and natural, invoking a sense of hope and healing for the facility’s patients and their companions.

From diagnosis to recovery, this $408/SF renovation, emphasizes the importance of world-class cancer care close to home. The Enoch Calloway Cancer Center demonstrates to all its patients, families, and staff the invaluable benefits that thoughtful and intentional Interior Design brings to a life-saving healthcare facility.

Bentley Carpet: The Harbert Center Case Study

Project Details

Architect/Designer: Design Innovations – Birmingham, AL
Size of Project: 1850 SY of carpet
Name of Product: Custom Outlier Nexstep Cushion carpet tile with a small amount of Kings Road for a custom logo
Market Segment: Corporate/Social Event Center
Project Location: Birmingham, AL

Project Description

The Harbert Center is home to more than twenty of Birmingham’s top civic clubs, associations, and nonprofit organizations. On nights and weekends, the center serves as a unique venue for weddings, receptions, and special events. The building has multiple rooms, in various sizes, to accommodate corporate or social event needs.

Fifteen years ago, Bentley’s attached cushion broadloom carpet was installed throughout Harbert Center, and the performance of the product was excellent. The center needed to be refreshed and Bentley was utilized once more for the center. This time, a modular carpet product format was selected.

Before

Challenge

The challenge was to provide a carpet product solution that fit Harbert Center’s existing aesthetic since no other finishes were being altered. Much of the building is comprised of granite tile; thus, coordinating carpet with existing finishes was crucial. The center also required a solution dyed carpet product to provide ultimate colorfastness. Attached cushion carpet was another requirement for comfort underfoot, durability, and extended life span. Lastly, there was a very specific time frame to complete material selection, material approval, product manufacturing and installation.

Solution

To meet the client’s needs and challenges, a strategic plan was followed that ultimately reduced the design process. In the beginning, a yarn system was selected. The design firm working with the Harbert Center project opted to review products with Antron Type 6,6 Solution Dyed nylon. The designers knew that a custom color was necessary to coordinate with existing finishes, so this specific yarn system was the appropriate choice.

From this point, designers were able to select a variety of styles based on pattern and scale, Bentley produced paper simulations for each selection. These simulated paper samples were reviewed with the designer and owner prior to moving to the phase of producing custom carpet samples for review. Bentley also provided digital room scene images, which helped the client visualize the customized carpet in their space.
